The first step of our three-step discipleship process is experiencing Real God. It is the stated purpose of our worship services to provide an opportunity for everyone in attendance to experience God in a real and meaningful way. We believe people need more than a theoretical knowledge of God and an abstract/undefined worship activity that leaves them feeling incomplete in their connection with God. We want people to experience Real God!
We define Real God to be Jesus Christ. He alone is the means of salvation for all humanity, and we want attendees to be introduced to Him and to receive Him as their personal Savior. In worship we want Jesus to become as real and present as He promised He would be for those who sought Him in spirit and in truth.
There are two guiding principles that we use to assist in the formation of our worship experience: 1) Relevance 2) Reliability. We want to be relevant to present and emerging generations, speaking the language of the times and resonating with the sounds that move the souls of our contemporaries. But we also want to be connected to the generations that preceded us, the patriarchs who invested ministry and imparted spiritual life into us. Being reliable to the essentials they taught us about faith in Jesus Christ is important.
The tension between these principles is demanding and difficult at times but we believe a necessary reality for a church who wishes to be intergenerational and cross-cultural. We realize that the balance point is not fixed and permanent. It does continue to move and shift, but with the help of the Holy Spirit we will always make the effort to balance these competing priorities.
